Firstly you need a starting point. There is no way to come up with a sensible plan, unless you know exactly what your current financial situation is.

Work out your fixed outgoings ( rent, mortgage, loans etc) as well as other outgoings.
Are there any unnecessary direct debits going out that you had forgotten about?
Are there cheaper deals out there for your car insurance, etc

Make sure you are claiming all the income and insurance pay-outs you are entitled to, dealing with bills and your rent or mortgage, and try and work out what to do  should debts become a problem.

This is certainly a good time to have a long hard look at your financial situation.

If you are going to be dealing with problem debts, the sooner you address the issue the better

Ask for a meeting with your bank manager. The bank will be pleased that you are addressing any issues.

If you have a mortgage, write to the lender. If you a likely to need to adjust the repayments, now is the time to start working out what is the best way forward.

If you have credit card bill, or other loans, again this is the time to make appropriate arrangements.

Find out what money, if any you are due from the state.

Experience also tells us that during a redundancy situation one of the main causes of invidual concern rests with pension scheme benefits and entitlements. For most people there are a variety of options to consider, with many factors to be taken into account.

If this is a worry for you, we suggest you contact Uniec  who are able to provide individuals with a personal pension analysis - an impartial, comprehensive ( yet easy to understand) report. And it's completely FREE!
